Sonya’s artistic form is rooted in the aesthetic postulates and artistic practices of the trends that emerged in modern art, defined as a state of the soul. A pronounced affinity for introspection leads the artist into an endless search for new formulations within already established poetics and recognized artistic values.

a Better Tomorrow

The entirety of Ćurčić’s oeuvre is marked by her affinity for the figure, which becomes more than a mere reflection of her concerns; it represents an initial impulse that, passing through her personal experience and thought, emerges transformed by her inner vision. The image is not a realistic mirror of things, and the process of its creation is far more complex than the simple transfer of realistic facts into pictorial realism.

Her earlier work carries an atmosphere of anxiety, fear, pain, and a search for essence, characterized by a refined sensitivity to shape, form, and atmosphere. In her pursuit of freedom and fundamental existential questions, the artist guides us toward the marginal, the discarded, the false world. The abundance of motifs and forms—marked by strong, vivid contours—gradually loses its literal meaning and becomes a metaphor the artist uses to establish an identification between the artwork and herself.
